Throughout my time at UW, I noticed a multitude of problems with disability services. Many students were being left behind by the very systems that were meant to help them. Students without formal diagnoses or the proper paperwork were unable to access disability accommodations, despite there being no legal framework to demand that. This was an issue that I couldn't just watch; I had to take action.
I conducted surveys and put on town halls to collect student testimonials. I held countless meetings with relevant stakeholders (Disability Resources for Students, Disability Services Office, D-Center, Faculty Senate leadership, and others) to understand the issue even further. I wrote a 30 page Policy Brief outlining the issues (shown here). |
