Since I was a child, my grandfather has always called me a dreamer. He never really meant it in a positive way; he thought that my mind was a balloon floating into space, never really anchored in reality. I shared with him the way I thought the world should be, not how it was, and that made me a dreamer. Now, as I’m rapidly approaching the end of my undergraduate years, I’ve come to realize that he was giving me the highest compliment I could ever receive. I am a person who does not settle for the way things are. The world that my eyes see is not the world that I envision in my mind. Everything I’ve done in these past four years has been to bring the justice-driven, compassionate, interdependent world in my head to life. |
